Meet the therapist
Robin Scott-Charbonneau, Ph.D., LMFT

After earning my Ph.D. in Marriage & Family Therapy from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, I returned home to Maryville to begin this practice as a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist. I believe that high quality therapy should be available to everyone, so I use a sliding fee scale. I also see therapy as a very active process including therapy through play with children, interactive workshops for the whole family, and hypnotherapy or other non-verbal exercises. I work from a Gestalt Family Therapy model which focuses on creating greater well-being for individuals and families as a whole. Depending upon the situation, I am also trained to use hypnotherapy, biofeedback, and Reiki. I believe that our lives are composed of five primary aspects: physical, emotional, intellectual, relational, and spiritual. I have found that problems in one area often affect other areas as well, and so counseling to deal with those problems should allow each area to be addressed. Therapy is helpful in adjusting to the ever-changing demands of life because it gives an opportunity for people to explore their situations, process their reactions, set goals, and have support as they move forward. I see my job as a therapist is to facilitate opportunities for my clients to make changes in their own lives by creating a safe environment for their explorations and giving my observations to them as they process those changes. I believe these changes are much more likely to be helpful and permanent if families work together to create them. The challenges we face in life are affected by the people closest to us, and those same people can be our biggest help in resolving them. This belief is the reason I do family therapy and am a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. I would be honored to work with you and your family as you overcome the obstacles you are facing. Please call with any questions or to make an appointment.
